Jimmy Driftwood has written over 6,000 folk songs, including the Battle Hymn of New Orleans. He was recorded in the Ozarks, at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas, which he founded. He started writing songs to teach history at age 16 in a little schoolhouse. His parents took him in a covered wagon to Oklahoma. He is well traveled, but his accent is strong and has remnants of early colonial sounds. This sample can be used to coach or re-create historical American Southern characters. | ||
