Recording is of a white male, aged around 40 years old from the coal mining region of West Virginia.  He talks about how his family lives on and around the old coal mining camp.

Ida was born and raised on the east side of New York.  All of her family is from there and is currently still living there as well.  She was 66 years old at the time of recording and is married.  She talks about what it was like growing up there and that she had a safe and fun childhood.

Ben is a native New Yorker that has lived on the east side for almost 20 years.  He is approximately 60 years of age or older. He works at a Jewish deli that is one of the best around and is visited by celebrities.  He talks about how he enjoys working there and how wonderful the food is.

Josephine is a teenager born and raised in the Bronx, or Little Italy.  She comes from a large Italian family whose parents where born in Italy.  She talks about her family structure and the storyline to the movie The Godfather.

Joe has lived in the Manhattan area of New York for most of his life. He is almost 60 years old and comes from a Jewish family.  He talks about growing up in New York and that his family was one of the only Jewish families in the neighborhood at the time.

A younger female from Brooklyn around the age of 20.  She talks her ex-boyfriend and what it's like living in the neighborhood.

Mountain AS WF age 35: American Southern, Southern Accents, Southern Dialects, Mountain Southern, Arkansas, Mountain View, White Female, age 35, Mountain View, AS, WF, age 35, born in 1960, mother, turkey hunter, deer hunter. Ginger is a white female musician, deer and turkey hunter, and mother from Mountain View, Arkansas, recorded at age 35 in 1994 at the Ozark Folk Center. Her southern accent is a light rhotic ("r" pronouncing), working class, mountain southern dialect.

Jimmy Driftwood has written over 6,000 folk songs, including the Battle Hymn of New Orleans. He was recorded in the Ozarks, at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas, which he founded. He started writing songs to teach history at age 16 in a little schoolhouse. His parents took him in a covered wagon to Oklahoma.  He is well traveled, but his accent is strong and has remnants of early colonial sounds. This sample can be used to coach or re-create historical American Southern characters.

American Southern: Southern Dialects: Southern Accents: Plantation Southern: Tidewater Southern, Upper-Class, White Female.� Ann Peets was recorded in a hospital in Georgia, at age 78 in 1993.� Her family and accent are from the Mississippi Delta region.� She has a slightly diluted Tidewater or Plantation Southern dialect, shared by other families along the coastal and riverbed regions of the American South wherein rich plantation owners kept contact with British merchants during the 1700's and 1800's, dropping their "r's" along with the Southern British elite class to sound more refined.� This dialect also has elements of "ebonics" or "Gullah" sounds, as many children of plantation owners were raised by African slave nannies alongside their own children.

This is a dialect from a working class white female living in a trailer from Warwick, Georgia. She is white, was born in 1982 and was 11 years old at the time of recording.

Her dialect is American Southern rhotic.
